Welcome to the "Shoe Goddess Salon"
Question: When is a GREAT SALE not so GREAT?
Answer: When you don't really need anything their selling - or anything your buying!
Oh how can I say that - a sale is a sale right? Well yes, but perhaps it's time to re-evaluate what's in the closet - I recently found three pairs of shoes I bought at a GREAT SALE two years ago that I have never worn since...and I regret to say they are not in style today.
Investing in classics is a great way to maneuver a GREAT SALE. Whether it's shoes, clothing or jewelry, if it's an item that will stand the test of time and it's on sale well there's a GREAT purchase. A timeless trench coat will take you where you need to go from now until your 100 - that sequined shoulder shrug will look silly and outdated when the fad has worn off. (Although you can always put it in the costume box for next halloween!)
Classic leather shoes in neutral colors, with a sexy cut or design will give you bragging rights and enjoyment long after those lime green and orange strappy sandals go out of season - and out of style. Sure they'll be offered at a tempting price - but they won't look so hot with next years fashions - this is almost guaranteed!
The problem is, everything that usually goes on sale in an end of season sale didn't sell to begin with - they were not big sellers or are over-runs that now the stores have to unload...on us! We run the risk of buying up all of this 'great" stuff only to find out next year it's out of vogue - horrors! So arm yourself with discipline and reserve, and hit those battle fields (I mean the stores) running with the right ammunition - knowledge of what you really need, so you can spend wisely.
If you're like me, there's bound to be clothing and shoes you don't wear in your closet - check out organizations like www.dressforsuccess.org - they will put your gently worn clothing and shoes to good use by providing it to low income women looking to start over in life and in the business world - now that feels better than any GREAT SALE any day!
Hope you've enjoyed this update...Until next time - "The Shoe Goddess"
